2008 Aston Martin Function

Unlike the DB9, the 2008 Aston Martin DBS has seats for only two, with the rear portion of the cabin devoted to a pair of parcel shelves capable of accommodating some small luggage or shopping bags. The 9-cubic-foot trunk could fit a pair of standard-size roller suitcases or a golf bag in a pinch, although longer clubs may need to be removed.

Though some staffers didn't care for the large analog clock located next to the speedo and tach, at least one preferred it to the typically small and harder-to-read digital units. Long a Mercedes feature, the power drop-down of the rear headrests made parallel parking less of a hassle, although it would be nice if Mercedes included parking assist as standard equipment. (It's optional.)

So when GM announced it would bring its Opel Astra across the Atlantic and re-brand it as a replacement for the Saturn Ion for 2008, those who knew the European brand's reputation for good build quality and sharp handling were hopeful that the Saturn Astra would breathe fresh competition into a class led by only a select few.
